Former President John Dramani Mahama has

donated PPE and disinfectants to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region.

Presenting the items on behalf of the former President, the Western Regional Chairman of the NDC, Nana Toku told Citi News that the personal protective kits are meant to support health personal at the Regional Hospital who are at the frontline of the fight against COVID-19 and further encouraged the Western Regional health directorate to continue the good work to protect the region from recording COVID-19.

“As you are aware, the former President has already donated to Ridge Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital and so many places. It is the turn of the Western Region, specifically Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital which forms part of the total items worth about 20 thousand Dollars that he bought for distribution and this is our share. 

The former President did this because of the cry of Doctors and other frontline workers for what they are going through because of the PPEs. What he is saying is that he is happy Western Region has not recorded any confirmed case of COVID-19 and must keep on observing all the protocols including washing of hands to be safe. This virus does not care who you are, poor, rich, young and the old, and we must keep the social distancing.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has donated PPE and disinfectants to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region.

The Medical Director for Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, Dr Joseph Kojo Tambil speaking on behalf of the Hospital said though the Hospital has received some of the PPEs from government, it’s however not adequate hence the former President’s donation has come at the right time.

“We did receive some PPEs last week but this coming would add to what we have. Our staff have been crying for more and more of these PPEs because as the patients walk into the service areas, you don’t really know who has what? So they need to protect themselves as they see people trooping in and these items donated would exactly do that for us, and also the water added to it. So these would be very helpful to us. We thank JM and his team but we hope if all politicians would do this for us, it would be a lot of help.”

Dr. Tambil added that the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis has so far tested 15 suspected cases of COVID-19 but all proved negative with two more cases still pending final results.

POLICE PATROL TEAM REJECTS "LOCKDOWN" FOODS

It appears there is some behind-the-scenes campaign among some police officers to reject food ration that comes with their lockdown duties.

The agitation begun on Whatsapp platforms created by the policemen from the ranks of constables to chief inspectors and their depot (course) mates is gathering momentum.

The policemen want GH¢100 daily as promised them for the enforcement of the restrictions order instead of food.

An article written by one of the officers has since gone viral on the various Whatsapp groups and it has received the tacit support of members.

The article among other things said “if the Police Administration cannot promote our welfare in times like this, the best they could do is not to complicate it. The food being served is cold and unwholesome, especially during this period when experts advice is to stay off cold food and prepare food from home.”

“Police is not immune to covid-19. Join hands and let’s demand for our ration by boycotting the food being served”, were his concluding remarks whiles calling for a total rejection, thereby sparking the agitations among the ranks.

JOHN MAHAMA SUPPORTS HO TEACHING HOSPITAL WITH PPEs & OTHER MEDICAL SUPPLIES.

Former President John Dramani Mahama on Monday presented a total of 70 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and 50 pairs of Gum Boots to health workers at the Ho Teaching Hospital, to support their work towards fighting the COVID-19 disease.

The presentation is part of a total of 650 PPE and 650 gum boots procured by Mr. Mahama, who is also the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for distribution to a number of medical facilities across the country.

A member of the NDC COVID-19 Technical Team, Prof. Margaret Kweku, who is also the Parliamentary Candidate for the HOHOE CONSTITUENCY, who presented the items on behalf of the NDC Flagbearer, thanked the country’s frontline health workers for their dedication, hard work and sacrifice as the nation grapples with the coronavirus.

Prof. Margaret Kweku, who was accompanied by the NDC Volta Regional Chairman, HON Henry Kwadzo Ametefee, HON James Gunu, Reg. Sec. HON Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah, HON. Kwame Agbodza and some Regional Executive, urged government to work faster to ensure the urgent supply of the required protective clothing and logistics for the health workers to maintain their confidence as they come into contact with hundreds of people during these times.

Chief Executive of Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Tampore, who received the items thanked former President Mahama for the support, pledging that the hospital will put them to good use.

As part of HE. J.D Mahama’s support for the country’s health workers, a quantity of PPEs and gum boots are being presented to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the Ho Teaching Hospital, Effia Nkwanta Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and Koforidua Government Hospital today.

Speaking at a ceremony on Saturday to announce the supply of the materials, President Mahama said he was deeply touched by the enthusiasm and the sacrifice of the health workers, adding that “I, John Dramani Mahama, appreciate you all, and Ghanaians appreciate you all”.

He also lamented the non-availability of protective clothing for the health workers. “I must quickly add that it is not a good thing that health workers, across the country, still, do not have personal protective equipment. This is obviously because we did not plan early as a country and our importation of test kits was also late. Also the demand for test kits and PPEs have outstripped supply globally.”

DEMOCRATIC FORUM CAUTIONS GOVERNMENT ON OVERPOLITICIZATION OF FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19 IN GHANA.

The Democratic Forum stands in solidarity with Ghana and the world at large in the collective fight against COVID-19. The global pandemic that has already claimed over 73,000 lives worldwide and has affected a total of over 1,330,000 people. Here in Ghana, 5 persons have lost their lives already with over 200 people infected. 

We wish to appreciate the efforts of President Akufo-Addo and his Government, all political actors including former President Mahama, and all faith based organization for their enormous contributions, support and donations made towards our collective fight against this pandemic. 

As an institution, we have also taken notice of some worrying political twists, capitalization and divisiveness which might cause us severely if not confronted head-on and put to stop with immediate effect. 

We wish to give a caution on the widespread political jubilations, chanting of party songs and campaign slogans coupled with vilification of political opponents by members of the ruling NPP party after every address by the President. 

This situation overly escalated yesterday after the President announced some reliefs for the populace and frontline health workers for our next phase of our fight against covid-19, with many declaring him automatic winner of the next elections and name-calling of his political opponents. 

We condemn this act, they were needles, unhealthy, backward and injurious to our collective vision of defeating Covid-19.  

We call on the President to with immediate effect call on all his supporters to cease the overly partisanship and endeavor to keep the country together and rally everyone along towards a successful fight against the pandemic. 

We want to once again reiterate that the COVID-19 pandemic knows no political colors nor does it understand the difference between the rich and the poor. So government and supporters of political parties must uphold their sense of responsibility and eschew partisanship for the greater good of all Ghanaians.

The Deputy National Women Organizer, Maame Efua Sakyi Aidoo together with the Greater Accra Regional Women Organizer, Felicia Mekpoi Bortey of NDC have fed parts of Teshie community with over 500 packs of foods items, distributed over 100 bags of water and other basic necessities to several households in Teshie.

This was in response to both national and the former President John Mahama's call on individuals especially his party executives to be passionate in this crises time and extend kind gestures to the needy and less privileged.

It could be recalled that aboutt a week ago as part of the nation's effort to curb the wide spread of COVID-19, the President of the Republic, through an Executive Instrument instructed for a partial two week lockdown within the affected areas where COVID-19 cases have been recorded. 

As a result, many less privileged people within our communities were expected to suffer the consequences since majority of these citizens means of livelihood and survival is dependent on daily struggles.

Hence, it brought about a spark in humanity where in crises moments like this we're expected to extend kind gestures, help and support each to stand firm.

The ever hardworking Deputy Women Organizer was accompanied by the Constituency Women Organizer of Ledzorkuku Krowor,  Hajia Sherifatu Sulley

 and her other executives.

THE FAVORITE WAAKYE SELELR PRACTICING SOCIAL DISTANCING AND ALL OTHER PROTOCOLS.

Today, as we move around with our activities of extending help and support for the needy and less privileged people within the country, we came across the Waakye seller who at Batsona Spintex who observes all the necessary precautionary measures and social distancing protocols against the COVID-19.

She was noticed providing a space for watching hands soon as a customer arrives. There's a white stripes of rectangular boxes where customers are to stand in queue waiting for their turn to be served.

She also provided Hand Sanitizers for customers before and after exchanging money and the food.

When asked why she took those moves, she indicated that the president was kind enough to allow food venders as part of the essential service providers but asked that they strictly observe all the hygienic and approved protocols. So she have every reason to observe them to avoid getting the trouble of Security Personnel who might come over to check as one of their daily routines in ensuring people follow all the directives.

She actually has a very decent Waakye joint that a lot of vehicles are seen parked in procession to buy theirs.

REFUND THE COMPULSORY DEDUCTION OF GhC50 TO SERVICE PERSONNEL - EDEM AGBANA TO NSS

The Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition NDC, Mr Eric Edem Agbana has issued a stern warning to the management of the National Service Secretariat to as a matter of urgency, refund some monies that were deducted from the regular allowance due them for the month of March.

The vociferous youth activist and former student leader describes this action as thievery, the compulsory deduction of the said amount for 2 yards of NSS branded cloth for the over 66,000 service personnel within the public sector. 

'If the NSS intends to do a rebranding and finds cloth as a necessity in that enterprise, it is the duty of the secretariat to fund the rebranding exercise, you can't impose a cloth on people and deduct the said amount from their paltry stipends. It is not only thievery, it also reflects the insensitivity of those managing the NSS. 

This is the time that they should rather be making a case for an increment of the current allowance, not to be taking from the poor service personnel again." he fumed.

He was responding briefly to a recent news item suggesting that the National Service Secretariat has superimposed a two piece cloths leading to the compulsory deduction of GHC ¢50 from personnel's March allowance.

He then called on the leadership of the Secretariat to the honorable thing by either  refunding the monies to the service personnel or make purchasing of the clothe optional.

He hinted that, failure to comply with with this simple directive, Service Personnel from across the country will embark on a mass protest against the extortion.
