The Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Hon. Mrs Jocelyn Tetteh Quarshi, has assisted 800 students who successfully completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and have been placed in different Senior High Schools (SHSs).
In addition, plans are being made to offer skills training for students willing to learn.
The MP’s initiative, “Going To School With Joy,” focuses on supporting students in her constituency, including those in the Wusuta, Tsoxor, Botoku, and Tsrukpe Aveme areas.
According to the MP, she is not doing this because she is seeking a reelection but because she understands the plight of parents in this difficult economy.
"I am not doing this because of my reelection but I do this every year for JHS graduates who have been assigned to various SHSs. I also understand times are hard and this is my little effort to support parents in this hard economy" she added.
Some of the support items included chop boxes, exercise books, and maths sets. Food and toiletries include gari, sardines, sugar, buckets, sanitary pads, toilet rolls etc.
One of the parents who's son is a beneficiary of this initiative expressed utmost joy and thank the MP for her benevolence. "Hon. Jocelyn has been doing this every year since she became an MP, and this year was my turn for my son to be supported. We thank her so much and we pray she wins this election to continue supporting us". She expressed.
Some selected students additionally received mattresses for excellent performance while each of the 800 students received Gh¢50.00 for transportation.
