VICTIMIZING THE VICTIMS; CRY OF THE HOMELESS ON THE STREET OF A LOCKDOWN.

Ghana, just like many countries announced a move to place a partial lockdown on the epicenters of the COVID-19 pandemic. A move which became necessary as a result of several individuals, groups and national advocacies aimed at ensuring the prevention of spreading the novel Coronavirus into other parts of the country.
Subsequently, on the 27th of March, 2020 the President of the republic addressed the nation spelling out the necessary information in tandem with the lockdown. A development that brought about mixed feelings among the general citizenry. A situation which also shook the spine of many to be very conscious of the realities that may struck them as a result of the lockdown as far as economic and means of livelihood is concerned. This consciousness brought about what is referred to as "Panic Purchasing or Buying".
People within these areas occasioned to be lockdown such as the whole of Greater Accra, Kumasi, Obuasi and Tema to run helter skelter within their respective markets and shopping centres to purchase goods and services that may sustain then throughout the period of lockdown. Items ranging from food items, kitchen accessories, electricity prepaid credits, water etc. The numbers were so scary that people could spend close to 30mins at a spot in their attempt to manuevre through the markets. Markets like the Mallam Atta, Agbogbloshie, Nima, Kosoa, Kaneshie, Circle, Lapaz markets etc were seen highly overcrowded. That overcrowding alone could be an avenue where people may contract the COVID-19 that we're trying to avoid its spread. There were certainly no safety means of ensuring social distancing, handwashing or even sanitizing their hands. The bigger challenge is how one would be able to determine who has the virus? Absolutely no one will can. Many critics have argued that this situation is as a result of failure on the side of government for not giving ample time for people to take time to get the necessary things they may need for the restriction period.
In many countries where there's lockdowns, government try as much as possible to absorb parts of the bills citizens may incur throughout the period by providing social amenities and some basic needs. Electricity, Water, Food and Rents bills are some of the essential things government could have taken care of if not all. However, our government did not give cognizance to the fact that there are a nirvana of people out there who's means of survival is dependent on their daily hustling and struggles (Hand-To-Mouth). Government of Ghana told Ghanaians it has built a 2,000 capacity hostel accommodation for our dear head potters (Kayayes) in Kumasi. A news that was welcomed by all and sundry with the hope that our sisters sleeping in the open places of the markets at the mercies of the weather may have a comfortable place to lay their heads, especially in crises like this. When this lockdown was announced, many of us were expecting that government would have used the opportunity to relocate these head potters to such facilities so they may have some comfort. Little did we know it was just one of their audio projects which have received media attention but does not exist.

Another issue that keep Ghanaians wondering why government faield to extend the lockdown to other regions since inhabitants of those regions may decide to run away from the restrricted regions.
As a result, many of these ladies decided to return home, mostly the northern parts of the nation. Knowingly that, they can not afford to survive under this restriction since they may not get access to food, water and accommodation.  Three trucks of packed head potters who were caught in Ejisu, Ashanti Region traveling to to the north we're returned to Accra without quarantining to test them for the COVID-19. Who can tell which of these ladies carries the virus?

Far from that, military and police personnel were deployed to enforce the lockdown. One cannot fathom what kind of orientation that were given to these men in uniform. I wrote in my earlier article admonishing these officers not to carry the laws of the land on their shoulders to display abuse of power and strength. However, it seems the narrative is exact opposite of what Ghanaians expected these men to behave. Instead of learning from the best practices of other nations where citizens found violating the restriction can be punished by a fine. But in our jurisdiction, videos going viral have indicated how citizens who were found outside were seriously molested and brutalized leaving people several degrees of injuries.

Some homeless citizens were openly assaulted for being seen outside during the restriction period. What plans did government of Ghana put otn place to ensure the safety of these homeless people for the men in uniform to visit them with all sort of harm when they're seen outside. We seem to be in a country where our leaders do not care about the welfare of the people but they rather think of how to manipulate and win next election.
On this score, I'd want to call on the government of Ghana, the Ghana Police Service and the necessary security quarters to as a matter of urgency call their men to order. Explain to them that a lockdown or restriction is not the same as a curfew where people cannot go about getting important services they need. This insensitivity on the side of these men is very inhumane and against the rule of law which we've spent years protecting as a nation.
The past three and half years have not been easy for us as Ghanaians. We've been visited by all sort of challenges. From close down of key banks and saving and loans to collapse of businesses, to extremely high cost of living. Instead of government to prioritizing human lives, they rather do it for elections. Crazy huh? Otherwise, government after securing a US$100m loan from he IMF & WHO, it would not wickedly think of dipping its hands into the Heritage Fund which is meant for the next generation all in a disillusional name of fighting COVID-19; a situation far from the reality.
We are suffering but the people in government are chilling. We're suffering because we decided to queue in the heated sun to vote for them. This is the time we expect government to use its Planting for Food to feed many households who can't afford but this is one of their many non-existing policies.
This is all our offenses.  As if it's not enough, they're still victimizing the victims (Citizens).
It is therefore our collective responsibility as citizens to workout out for our salvation. God can intervene for us but we need to set the ball rolling so the Lord will finish the work.
We shall overcome this, together!!!!

H.E JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA'S BRIEF SPEECH DURING A PRESENTATION OF DONATION AT THE RIDGE HOSPITAL.

We are here at the Ridge Hospital to make a presentation. The Greater Accra Regional Hospital as it is has become virtually the main facility that is is helping in this fight against COVID-19.

We have been following what has been going on, the shortage of Protective Equipments (PPEs) and the basic things that will help the frontline medical staff in the fight against the virus. And so we got some donations of the Protective Wears so we thought that we would come and give it to you so that you can use it to protect your staffs.
Ghana appreciate the work you are doing and we need to support you. You're at the frontline defense of the population against the disease. And we must all support you to be able to support us.

And so we're presenting 100 PPEs, 100 Gowns, 100 Masks, 100 Caps, 100 Boots, Sanitizers and all. We hope this little donation will help.
We're also presenting you some water, we must drink a lot of water at this time to help boost our immune system. So we presenting this little donation and we hope this will help to fight the virus and keep Ghana safe.

So on behalf of the COVID-19 Team, NDC I want to express the appreciation of all Ghanaians for the work that you're doing. And we hope that God will protect and preserve you so that even as you fight to protect us, you, yourselves will be safe  and your families will be safe.

Thank you.

THE SPIRIT OF BROTHERHOOD, A SPARK OF HUMANITY.

There is a spark of humanity in everyone. As we claim our personal sparks we become agents of transformation. As agents of transformation, all the resources we need may either be available to us or we must make them available in the process of transformation.
It works best when we, ourselves, are willing to be transformed. As we explore, we must support each other in exploring.
The past few weeks have not been an easy nuts for us to crack as a people. We've been slapped in the face by a global pandemic which has so far claimed over 30,800 precious lives.
Several countries have fought it physically, mentally and psychologically with all available resources but situations currently seems not under control. As Ghanaians, even though we've almost been overwhelmed by the crises, we're still hopeful and positive that we shall together fight the battle.
As part of the Preventive measures, government has instructed a partial lockdown of certain key areas within the country effective Monday, 30th of March 2020. The purpose for the restriction is meant to mitigate the rate of COVID-19 spread and to allow effective means of monitoring and tracing individuals who might have had direct contacts with people who've tested positive for COVID-19.
This lockdown will certainly cause a lot of economic and survival inconveniences. A lot of friends, families and individuals survive on their daily hustling and hawking on the street. It suggests that at the end of the day, it is the back of the man with blunt cutlass that will suffer.
This is the time we need to activate our spirits of brotherhood and sisterhood. We need to have a sense of urgency for people who even on ordinary times struggle to provide just a meal square. There are people out there who may genuinely need our helps and assistance.
Government may do its part to bring hope to these people, however it may not be able to do it all. It is in the spirit of spark of humanity that we become each other's keeper in times like this. Just call or locate an unemployed friend, a hawker, head potter (kayaye), a scrap dealer, a pure water sachet collector, a local refuse collector etc and inspire the person with a donation of any form or kind. It may not be enough as you'd expected to have given but to this person, you've given him/her the world and your name will be engraved in the walls of their hearts forever.
I have already noticed some individuals, church ministries (like the House Maker's Chapel Int. Ministries), groups, some students Unions (like the National Union of Ghana Students) and Community youths organizing themselves to put smiles on people's faces in this trying moments. There's nothing more humane, inspiring as a stream of hope flowing to people than this. They certainly deserve alot of commendations.
I would therefore want use this platform to once again call on other groups, organizations, clubs and individuals who have the strength to reach out to these people who may be hit hard by the situation and force their eyes to be plugging from it's eyeball sockets.
In times like this, the source of hope and inspiration to sustain us will come from ourselves.
I greatly agree with Victor Hugo when posited that "the greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved; loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves." This is the meaning of true love...
We therefore need to let people around us feel an exceptional sense of being loved unconditionally and that not even a pandemic like this can devour our spirits of brotherhood and togetherness.
I cannot end this piece without sending warm and kind regards of best wishes to the first gentleman of the land, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo on his birthday. We continue to pray for the Almighty God's infinite blessings, wisdom especially and good health, to be able to steer the affairs of the nation peacefully allowing rule of law to be in full operation and eschew callousness and infidelity of any kind till his time of exit.
Let's continue to observe  all precautionary protocols and lockdown restrictions. It's not just na ordinary times, as Sparks in the socities let's all put our shoulders to the wheels and and push along to eliminate COVID-19.
Remember, we may be strong and individuals but as a group or team, we are invincible.
May all sparks be strengthened. May we all be willing to transform and be transformed.... Help Someone!! Save A Life!!!

STAY HOME; THE ONLY PROVEN ANTIVIRUS AGAINST COVID-19

For the past decade, there's never been a time where I have to stay home doing nothing continuously for about two weeks without having some Intercity, regional or even international travels.
However, ever since our COVID-19 cases started, I've been home throughout for 12 good days. Trust you, me, it has not been so easy staying home like a sick person.. I for one, I feel it's more stressful and sickening to stay home doing nothing than to go to work and having your regular rounds.

Since recording our first COVID-19 case, several groups and individuals have called on the government to as a matter of urgency and as part of the strident measures in avoiding the spread of COVID-19, to effect either a total or partial lockdown. The debate went on for several days as opponents on the other side of the debate argues for the need to consider the implications of any type of the lockdowns.

As we speak, the COVID-19 cases have been recorded in at least four regions as many argue it's as a result of government's indecision to lockdown the key epicenters of the virus.

Even though others say issues have gotten out of hands as the COVID-19 cases have spread so wide with official 136 positive cases and 5 deaths as at yesterday 27th March, 2020.

Better late than never the saying goes, now the president of the republic has finally listened to the calls of those proponents of a lockdown and accordingly addressed the nation detailing areas required to observe the lockdown or restriction judiciously.

Now the ball lies in our own courts as citizens. It is everyone's responsibility to ensure his/her own health and social safety.

Our role in this is to try as much as possible to staying home but do well to report for any possible suspected cases of COVID-19.

To our security agencies to be deployed in this time to make sure this lockdown is effectively adhered to by all and sundry, this should not open the floodgates for them to exhibit how powerful and strong they are. The police and military most especially, should not in anyways brutalize citizens in the name of ensuring they obey the restrictions. They can employ the best practices of other nations who punish citizens who have violated the restrictions like being fined or other reasonable ones rather than caning, booting and slapping violators. These acts of correcting wrongs should not be encouraged in our democratical dispensation.

Brothers and Sisters, please this is not just an ordinary times as we keep saying. Let's all endeavor to remain home safely as it has proven to be the best antivirus against COVID-19 so far. Even though the challenges, lost and collapses associated to this may be irreparably great, it will at least help stop the spread and keep our nation on the go.

Keep in mind that regardless of WHO YOU ARE and your STATUS in society, when you're tested positive for COVID-19 you'll be left alone to your own fate. No one will ever come closer to you, not even your family members!!
That's why there's a sense of urgency for us all to comply with the directives and stay home and stay safe.
Remember it's only when you have good health and alive before you can go about with any socio-economic, cultural and political activity.

And together, we shall overcome this.

#BeProtected
#StopTheSpread

TO ERR IS ALLOWED BUT TO REPEAT IS FOOLISHNESS

TO ERR IS ALLOWED BUT TO REPEAT IS FOOLISHNESS.
In the sudden wake of COVID-19 spreading across the globe like a wildfire, Ghana like many other nations cared less, most especially when there wasn't any recorded cases within the African regions.
Even though some African leaders foresaw the need to take strident measures to curtail entry of the virus, other leaders still sat unconcerned in their usual lackadaisical posture calculating how to either loot their countries or win the election.
Subsequently, when Ghana recorded her first COVID-19 case on the 12th of March, 2020, our President addressed the nation assuring us to remain steadfast as his government has committed an amount of USD$ 100m towards the fight against COVID-19. An amount which turned out to be an "audio" money because his cousin Ken Ofori Atta addressing Parliament in the following week contradicted the president in a revelation that the money is now under a loan process to IMF & WHO.
As our cases continued to escalate, the president in his own wisdom and that if his advisors, addressed the nation on government's outlined precautionary safety, placed a four week ban on public gatherings and social events such as weddings, funerals, church & mosque activities. Applying the same wisdom he decided to extricate night clubs, drinking spots and other funny public engagements. Let's assume he was mislead to think night clubs and drinking spots have less than 25 participants.
Intriguingly, whiles citizens felt the need to respect the president's order, Prof. Ken Atefuah and his officials (Some of the "we have the men") were busily executing another presidential order. A presidential order to register citizens in the president's strongholds for the Identification cards, which according to Jean Mensah will be the prerequisite for voting. When the President was asked by one Reverend Minister whether or not he's aware the NIA has defiled his orders and gone ahead registering people, he boldly look in his face and lied that he's oblivious of the act. Let's again assume the president was uninformed about the development so he couldn't order his boys to stop.
As though that was not enough, two citizens thought it wise and instituted a legal action against the NIA.  they prayed the court to among other reliefs place an interlocutory injunction on the NIA registration. Taking into cognisance the fact that  the act will endanger the lives of the people as it posed a threat of spreading the COVID because over 100 people crowd the premises to register each day.
Fast forward, the Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Dame appealed the High Court to allow the NIA continue with its operations using  the president's private law firm, Akufo-Addo,Prempeh and Co. And it's all over the news that the court has granted Godfred Dame's relief and have seen the NIA sharing fliers to other communities with the Eastern Region for registration. How can we forgive him for such callousness? So if he didn't hear the rain rain drumming hard on his roof, didn't he see it when he came out? This is what hypocrisy can do.
This is how cruel President Akuffo Addo and his cronies can be. They have beein lying to all of us before & after elections and even whiles in government. They lied to us when Nana Addo said he's concerned about the next generation but not the next elections, he absolutely meant the direct opposite of what he said.
We're in a country where leaders no longer think about the welfare of the citizens but the "warfare" of the next election. By hook or crook, by living or dead they must win the election... Such wickedness!
They said we shouldn't politicize COVID-19 like the NPP did during the Ebola outbreak in 2015 yet they're the major culprits.. Always using press conferences to conceal their evil deeds from the public. The few serious ones have been muted certainly because they don't subscribe to their wickedness..
They said we shouldn't spread fear but our leaders keep lying to us concealing every truth and playing an angelic role in our faces.
And all of  a sudden, our Clergy, some CSOs, National Peace and Christian Councils who hitherto were so verbose in criticising the erstwhile government are now blind, dumb and deaf. This is the level of hypocrisy we've gotten to. And don't be surprised if you awake up one morning to see our nation submerged in a pool of hypocrisy.
The way and manner in which these people reason and offer advice leaves the younger generation wonder where wisdom had fled to.
So are we still expecting God to listen to the national fasting and prayers sanctioned by a lying president? Judas Iscariot must be laughing by now.
Every indication has proven that our current leaders don't care about what happens to you and I.  It's therefore incumbent on us to now protect our lives and secure our future. A future that promises to be great and provide an enabling environment where all will thrive, regardless.
Let's all advice ourselves and protect our lives in this moment of global pandemic. Bear in mind that those asking you to go queue to register for NIA cards wear nose masks and sanitizes their hands frequently even in their enclosed Chambers. You have not been provided even with a tissue to cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough yet you're going to join over hundred people for registration when you don't know who has the virus and who doesn't. If you ever fall victim to this insensitivity of the government, and contract the virus, you'll die a very painful, useless and worthless death.
We thought the President was once again misled to say he wasn't aware of the NIA breeching of order. But to allow his private firm to be used to perpetuate evil against the people of Ghana, that is unpardonable, for wants of better words for better expression. It is undoubtedly true that the people of Ghana are not angry enough but such hypocrisy, moral decoys and political incongruities must not be countenanced at all.
Eluhi was absolutely right when he told Job in his book chapter 32 verses 9 that "it is not growing old that makes people wise or helps them to know what is right".  As he said in the verse 8 that "But it is the spirit of Almighty God that comes to human beings and gives them wisdom".
Indeed if it was growing old that gives wisdom, Ghana should have been Paradise by now since we were told some three and half years ago that "Y3 te Sika so nanso k)m de y3n" (To wit, we're sitting on money yet we're hungry).
It is okay for a man to make mistakes but when these mistakes are repeated severally, it's no longer referred as such but as wickedness. Ghana is sinking under this current governance and until they're told boldly in the face that they've failed Ghanaians, they'll continue to show disrespect for humanity, law and order!!

As a people, we need a national development plan. A plan that leaders would not sit in Accra and assume for the people what their priorities are. We are talking about a national development plan build on the foundation of concensus building. One that leaders will provide an avenue for the citizens to SPEAKOUT and not holdback, one that will provide the people an opportunity to meet key stakeholders and decision makers to interact one-on-one outlining their grievances, needs and wants to be addressed respectively. It is only through this means that we would have a well thought out national agenda to execute to restore the lost hopes and inspire the people to do more. A better alternative that will salvage this great nation from the whims and caprices of insensitivity, socio-economic and political mishaps. With this, in the words of Martin Luther King Jr "we would be able to hew out of the mountain of despair".

Thank you.
